AH-TAP-CHEE, memories from my childhood

Ah tap chee pniahs are little round biscuits, the size of ten cent coins, with pink, green and white icing in the shape of Hershey’s Kisses. They are sold at chai tah mahs, Hokkien term for grocery stores.

“I took the photo after not seeing it for eight or nine years,” said Chua Sue Ann. “(It) reminded me of how I’d use to only eat the ’sweet gems’ and save the biscuit part for throwing at other kids.”

  5. I used to eat those when I was a kid.

I try and eat them now and can’t help thinking what the hell was I hooked on. Think the newer ones suck big time when compared to the ones before this.

  8. Same here. I thought attapchees are palm fruits.

Anyway, the biscuits are also used as offering to the netherworld. Nevertheless, I do remember enjoying eating them when small, when all it takes to make a kid happy is sweet snacks. :)
