Here is a personal note from a Malaysian student studying in the UK. To highlight how young Malaysians around the world are doing crazy things to make a difference, theCICAK decided to feature his mission.
Here is a personal note from Aaron Hee, to readers of theCICAK.
Hello! This is Aaron Hee here. I am from Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. But for now I’m in the University of Warwick, England furthering my education.
As you have seen in the trailer above, I will be hitchhiking to Morocco coming Easter in aid of Link Community Development.
LCD is a partner organization that is responsible to develop education for children in Africa mainly in Ghana, Uganda, Malawi to name a few. They believe education is a basic human right. Yet at this minute, there are 24 million children in Africa denied of this right thereby also denying them any chance of achieving their dreams. Established in 1989, LCD aims to restore the rights of the children. The organization constantly builds new schools, provide training for teachers as well as other education infrastructure.
This is not your typical charity. Bread and clothing are not what we provide. We provide an education. We give opportunities that will break the vicious circle of poverty and dependence and let them feed and clothe themselves and in years to come, their own children. Their entire line of descendants may have lived off charity but you have the power to give these children the greatest gift of all. Independence. Self Respect.
However, their effort wouldn’t have materialized without financial support. Some of their major sponsors and partners are HSBC Education Trust, the famous Rockefeller Foundation and BBC World Class. Latest updates about LCD’s projects and other relevant information can be found at www.lcd.org.uk. In Malaysia, our local, fast-growing fitness company – CNergy Fitness Sdn. Bhd, will be sponsoring LCD.
Despite this support, funding is always an issue for a charitable body, especially on this scale. This is 1 organisation in 5 different countries helping 24 million children. This hitchhiking is a theme behind our fundraising. We have to raise funds – not to finance our trip expenses - but to financially contribute to LCD so they can expand their development. I am separated by thousands of miles from Africa, but I believe that I can still contribute to this humanitarian project. Each hitchhiker is to raise a minimum of £300 for LCD.
As such, my readers, you have the capacity to help LCD to change 24 million young lives in Africa as well as making my hitchhiking a success- that is like killing 2 birds with one stone! I hope my effort in making this video reflects my sincerity in embarking on this journey across 1600 miles to help change Africa.
If you are interested in supporting this cause, and in light of this festive season of Chinese New Year, I hope you would consider making a donation to LCD through me and help me reach my target. Any amount can be donated and donations can be made securely online at www.justgiving.com/aaronformorocco. All proceeds go directly to LCD. You have seen in the trailer how LCD can utilize your donations to make a difference. After donating, give yourself a pat on the back.!
Also, if you are on Facebook, you are more than welcome to join my Facebook group dedicated to this cause! Search for this group ‘aaronformorocco’ and just join it!
Thank you for sparing some time to view my trailer as well as reading this piece of article. I believe that a majority of you for many years have been expecting to see improvement in Africa. LCD is therefore here to help us who share the same vision to change Africa- making it a better place. With this, I hope you would kindly make a contribution to LCD! With all this support, it is a matter of time we would see a better Africa, ultimately, a better world!
Have a nice day!
