Malay and proud of it

1. How did you come up with Enjet-Enjet Semut?
I made the Enjet-Enjet Semut flash animation as an entry for a competition. The reason I entered… the the top prize was an Xbox360. Haha. Hmm… since I am not musically inclined, I thought using a Malay nursery rhyme to convey the message would be perfect. The idea, like all ideas, came about when I’m sitting down with a pen and a writing pad. It just flows.. I don’t know how to explain it.

2. What is Happeepill.com?
Happeepill is an idea I had way back. I was browsing through some commercial blogs and I thought hey, I can do better than this. But it took a while to materialize because I was procrastinating. I hope it can earn some ad revenue one day, but if not Happeepill will act as my online, blog-diary-nostalgic journal kinda thing. I cover every issue that matters to me; from reminiscing about childhood games to giving advice on nabbing a nice guy for single girls and Singaporean politics. And being a Muslim, I also intend to cover Islam in the future.
3. What are your thoughts about being Malay and taking pride in your own heritage?
Actually, I’m not into this racial pride thing. Being Malay, Chinese or Indian is not really important. What matters is how you conduct yourself and what you contribute to society. And I’m not saying that just to get on everyone’s good side. Haha. But honestly, I am Muslim first and I am Malay second.
“The Almighty Allah has removed the false pride taking, which was practiced in the pre-Islamic period, where individuals took false pride with their ancestors (forefathers). All mankind belong (in lineage) to Adam (pbuh). Adam is created of soil (earth dirt).”
However, I am fascinated by anything Malay, like food (I love it very much), feminine Malay dances and even the Silat, which looks different from all the martial arts I’ve seen. I am also fascinated by the Chinese lion dance and Bruce Lee, as well as the Indian roti prata. How can you live on this earth without eating a good prata in the morning? You get my drift.
