TheCICAK “Write It!” 2006 Judge, Jeff Ooi

On the sidelines, he is a freelance ICT consultant, an avid photographer, and a tech junkie. But Jeff Ooi is far from being a regular Joe; he is one of the biggest names in the Malaysian blogosphere. His blog, Screenshots, clocks up to about 250,000 hits a month.

A passionate and sharp socio-political commentator, he is well-known among the media and political circles as a crusader for alternative opinions, bold in the face of the mainstream culture of conformism.

Apart from his blog, he writes on Malaysian current affairs for CNET Asia, and is active in founding and maintaining his USJ community web portal. His fame has brought him to many places such as Harvard University, San Francisco, Bangalore and London as an international speaker. He also gives talks in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and has been awarded the Reporters sans Frontières’ Freedom Blog Award for Asia.

At the end of the day, he is a man with a mission. “I’m on a crusade to produce more bloggers,” he was quoted in Chrome, “lone voices don’t get heard.”
