YouBet: What will you do for the rakyat?

By ARIVIND ABRAHAM

We at theCICAK want to conduct an experiment in bridging the gap between Malaysian politicians and youth.

And we’re making a RM100 bet.

youbet Post up a video of yourself on youtube.com - with a short message for any local politician. Ask a question. Raise an idea.

Don’t just say your piece - Seek a RESPONSE.

We’ll give you RM100 if your video is the first YouTube video to get a YouTube recorded response from a local politician.

Let’s find out if a local politician responds before the general election and you’ll know who’s really listening to the youth of Malaysia and engaging us on OUR terms.

To take up the bet, email us the YouTube video you created. If you get a video response, email to us as well… write4thecicak (at) gmail (dot) com

NOTE:You must be a Malaysian 35 and under, based in Malaysia or even out of the country. theCICAK will not be held responsible for any content hosted on the youtube.com network. The bet expires after elections.

  1. Yes!!! This is exactly what Jeff Ooi’s campaign effort has been waiting for. He is a fine example of Internet Man, and knows of the Cicak and YouTube, and he will doubtless be the first to respond to one of these vids. And you guys have made an important point. For what matters to us are not politicians’ arguments or pledges, or whether they have anything valuable to offer beyond the usual cliches we’re used to hearing, or whether they can present policies to improve the lives of youths and to get us out of this culture of disrespect for youth that is endemic in Malaysia - no, what REALLY matters is whether or not they’re hip enough to deliver their cliches via YouTube. If they’re giving press conferences and speeches, are we going to listen? Malas lah. Put it on YouTube, then I’ll pay attention. Jeff is only too well-equipped to handle this, and he will emerge victorious. Which is as it should be! Daft 4 Jeff 4 Malaysia!!!

  2. Daftoi rocks my socks!

Btw Arivind, NEP does not benefit one race. It benefits Bumiputera citizens, including Ibans, Kelabits, etc etc…

Yahyah we get your point, but perhaps you should get your facts right first.

  3. If you had any Iban, Kelabit etc friends, they’ll tell you that’s not entirely true.

  4. I want to set the record striaght with this NEP thing, it does not only benefit Malays, it benefits the indegenous peoples of sabah and sarawak. I have had the benefit of studying alongside Iban, Kadazan friends in a MARA college. So sorry to dissapoint you, it is true.

To a certain extent, I understand that the chinesse and Indians of Malaysia are not entitled to these “Privileges” but i am definately sure that both the chinnese and indian communities are not deprived of their basic “rights”.
Ananda Krishnan, Lim Goh Tong, Tony Fernandez are all not bumiputeras.
Im just curious, apart from just being wealthy non-bumiputera’s, what have they done for the chinnesse and indians in Malaysia? What have they done?

In my view, theres nothing better than being a Malaysian, regardless of race!
Just look at the aussies and how they have being mistreating the aboriginies, look at the americans and how they treat the blacks and the mexicans!

Unlike them, we don’t have a dole system!

But then again, yeah I think we Malays are ready to loose our “priveleged” status, BRING IT ON!

How about we abolish the NEP, and impose a HUGE increase of income taxes amongst the business owners and peoples earning more than a household income of 10,000 per month. Like 40% taxation per annum, regardless of race, I shit you not. I think Malaysia would definately be “FAIR” then! Lets literally Rob the Rich and Give it to the poor Indians, poor chinnese and poor malays, ibans, kadazan etc!
